I have been an artist since I was a child, drawing and painting whenever I could. I also realized that ordinary objects could become art from a young age. Art is a part of my everyday life, as I use it in my classroom to inspire children to express themselves. When I am not at school, I love creating new pieces from my vast supply of creative tools.
I use many different mediums, such as paper for collage, wooden boxes and frames for assemblage pieces and shrines, paint, beads, and fabric. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests its own individual style and creative approach. I also enjoy working to create digital art to expand my tool kit. Inspiration is everywhere!
I have always been fascinated by other cultures and I travel as often as I can. I have especially been captivated by the art of Mexico. The Virgin of Guadalupe, milagros, and loteria have influenced my work. Now that I live in Louisiana, I gather inspiration from the rich culture here. I have begun adding Mardi Gras beads to my assemblage
